Questions to ask before a gel manicure

A clear conversation about products, curing lamps, sensitivities and removal.

Questions to ask before a gel manicure

Ask what is actually being applied

Terms such as gel polish and overlays can describe different services between salons. Before starting, ask which product is being applied, whether length is being added and how it will be removed. If you know the name of an existing product, include it in your booking note.

Discuss curing and skin contact

The British Association of Dermatologists warns about sensitisation from uncured product on skin and inadequate curing. Ask your professional about product–lamp compatibility and disclose previous reactions before application.

Protect the skin under the lamp

AAD’s gel manicure guidance suggests broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30+ sunscreen on the hands or dark, opaque fingerless gloves. This is not a guarantee that every device or exposure is risk-free.

Keep the right details

The service name, a colour reference and a question for your consultation are useful planning notes. Avoid putting medical details in general booking notes. Nail or skin concerns need individual assessment by a health professional; Luna’s quiz and Colour Studio are not diagnostic tools.
